The Hezbollah-Israel Conflict: By the Numbers
The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel began on July 12 when Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed Shiite terrorist organization, killed eight Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers and kidnapped two others on Israel’s side of the border with Lebanon. Hezbollah coordinated the kidnapping scheme to coincide with massive rocket and mortar shell attacks on IDF positions and Israeli villages. In response, Israel retaliated with an operation on southern Lebanon aimed at disarming Hezbollah and to rescue the abducted IDF soldiers. Hezbollah’s daily barrage of rocket attacks has taken a heavy toll on Israel’s civilian population, including its economy and its environment.
Since the conflict began:

159 Israeli citizens have been killed by Hezbollah rocket fire; of those
-
43 were Christian, Jewish, and Muslim civilians
-
116 were IDF soldiers killed in rocket attacks as well as in combat  [1]

4,262 civilians were treated for injuries in hospitals; of those, 33 were seriously wounded, 68 were moderately wounded, and 1,388 were lightly wounded. Another 2,773 suffered from shock and anxiety. [2]

Over 2 million people – almost a third of Israel’s population - were within Hezbollah rocket range[3]
-
300,000 – 500,000 Israelis have been displaced [4]

More than 1 million residents were forced to live in bomb shelters [5]

6,000 homes were hit by rockets [6]

Environmental Loss:

Humanitarian Assistance into Lebanon:
-
At least 70,000 foreign nationals were assisted by the IDF in the coordination efforts to evacuate Lebanon [29]

57 airplanes with humanitarian goods for Lebanese civilians were permitted to land and unload at Beirut International Airport [30]

The IDF allowed 213 passenger ships, 123 ground convoys and 196 helicopters to travel through Lebanon to evacuate expatriates and tourists [31]
