CBNNews.com – Thursday marks Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the Jewish new year.

During this time, Israelis greet one another with the Hebrew greeting “sha-na toe-va” which means happy new year. In Israel, it’s a national celebration but with deep biblical roots.

The Sights and Sounds of Celebration

In Jerusalem, the city is filled with the sights and sounds of the holiday.

Mahane Yehuda is Jerusalem’s biggest open air market. At this time of year, thousands of Israelis come here to get ready and celebrate the Jewish New Year.

“You really feel the holiday in the air, you know,” said one Israeli woman. “Everybody’s getting ready. Everybody’s cleaning their homes. You feel like everybody’s getting ready for the Messiah.”

At Rosh Hashanah, merchants sell specific foods with their own symbolism. For example, apples and honey mean hope for a sweet new year. Fish mean hope to be the head and not the tail. Round bread symbolizes the cycle of the year.

It’s a time for family and friends and it’s good for business at the market.

“You know everything is very expensive – nobody complains,” Israeli Roni Barak said.

More Than a Holiday

But Rosh Hashanah is more than just a holiday. In the Bible, it’s called the feast of trumpets.

“Rosh Hashanah is one of the Feasts of the Lord in Leviticus 23. It doesn’t talk about Jewish feasts; it talks about Feasts of the Lord. In fact, the Hebrew word is not even feast, it’s ‘moadim.’”

‘Moed’ is a time of meeting God. God has a divine appointment and He wants to meet with His people,” said Chuck Cohen of Intercessors for Israel.

Dwight Pryor, founder of the Center for Judaic Christian studies says this is a significant time of year.

He said, “This is an awesome time. I wish more Christians understood the beauty and significance spiritually of these High Holy days. It’s like a grand symphony with so many themes interwoven and interconnected. Some… focus on the one hand on God and His character and on the other hand our responsibility.”

Pryor says the trumpet – or shofar – blast is meant to wake us up and send the sober message that one day we all face god’s judgment.

“Jesus will be that righteous Judge before whom all of the nations as well as us individually will stand on the last day. And when He comes, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faithfulness among His people. That’s what Rosh Hashanah tells us. ‘Hey, have you been faithful?’

“If not,” he said, “Make amends, repent, turn around, make things right and walk in faithfulness, in the obedience of faith, after the Good Shepherd, Yeshua, Jesus.”

Sydney Award Ceremony held by Chinese Dissidents and Rights Defenders

As leaders of twenty-one Asian and regional nations meet in Sydney for the APEC Summit meeting this week, a group of Chinese dissidents and rights defenders held an award ceremony to honor outstanding Mainland Chinese and overseas democracy activists and rights defenders.

Chinese leader Hu Jintao arrived in Sydney on Tuesday night. According to reports he would attend a banquet in the Sydney government building hosted by the governor of New South Wales. Not far from there in the Parliament House, a group of overseas Chinese and non-Chinese hosted the Asia-Pacific Human Rights Foundation’s 2007 award ceremony. The Chinese government expressed dissatisfaction, and formally protested with the Australians requesting this activity “targeting the Chinese government” be cancelled. The Australian government and the organizers to the pressure from the Chinese government, and held the award ceremony as planned.

Eight awards were presented, each recipient received a certificate of merit and award money of more than $1000 U.S. Among those awarded were Beijing professor Ding Zilin representing the group Tiananmen Mother in receiving the “Brilliant Humanitarian award; Chinese author Liu Xiaobo received the “Courageous Conscience” award; former Canadian Secretary of State for Asia Pacific David Kilgour and human rights attorney David Matas received the “Defender’s of Justice” award; founder of the Chinese Freedom and Democracy Party and sentenced to twenty years in prison, Beijing Languages College instructor Hu Shigen received the “Democracy Fighter” award; Heilongjiang Province farmers Yang Chunlin and Wang Guilin received the “Citizens Fight against Tyranny” award; Liu Chengjun, who broke through Chinese media censorship was awarded the “Leave Marks to History” award; those Chinese citizens who in Beijing in 1989 resisted violent suppression and received life or death and are still serving their sentences received the “June Fourth Resist Tyranny Fighter” award; Hunan Modern Business editor Shi Tao and Boxun News domestic reporter Jie Mu shared the “Media Freedom” award.

WIBR/WARN Radio changes ahead

Further, we are planning on adding another broadcast on another network for this “hot prophecy news”. This is some time in the future after we get settled in. Our Thursday broadcast ‘In the preparation room’ will no longer be available. Instead, listeners will be able to listen to this on the Friday 9 pm broadcast, WARN Radio: into the night. As you probably know by now, the Friday night 9 pm broadcast will be the broadcast we will be working on to bring into its fullest potential.

The news on all the sites will be a little slowed down until we get moved and also get back from a short vacation. We have been working 55-60 hours a week or there about to keep these broadcasts and sites up. So because of this and our desire to minister during this time, we will be gone and doing that. We will be back the first week of October and start fresh. So we ask you bear with us in this move, re-organization, and Up coming new broadcasts and segments.

When the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved implanting microchips in humans, the manufacturer said it would save lives, letting doctors scan the tiny transponders to access patients‘ medical records almost instantly. The FDA found “reasonable assurance” the device was safe, and a sub-agency even called it one of 2005‘s top “innovative technologies.”
“The transponders were the cause of the tumors,” said Keith Johnson, a retired toxicologic pathologist, explaining in a phone interview the findings of a 1996 study he led at the Dow Chemical Co. in Midland, Mich.
To date, about 2,000 of the so-called radio frequency identification, or RFID, devices have been implanted in humans worldwide, according to VeriChip Corp. The company, which sees a target market of 45 million Americans for its medical monitoring chips, insists the devices are safe, as does its parent company, Applied Digital Solutions, of Delray Beach, Fla.
The FDA is overseen by the Department of Health and Human Services, which, at the time of VeriChip‘s approval, was headed by Tommy Thompson. Two weeks after the device‘s approval took effect on Jan. 10, 2005, Thompson left his Cabinet post, and within five months was a board member of VeriChip Corp. and Applied Digital Solutions. He was compensated in cash and stock options.
Published in veterinary and toxicology journals between 1996 and 2006, the studies found that lab mice and rats injected with microchips sometimes developed subcutaneous “sarcomas” — malignant tumors, most of them encasing the implants.
• A 1998 study in Ridgefield, Conn., of 177 mice reported cancer incidence to be slightly higher than 10 percent — a result the researchers described as “surprising.”
• A 2006 study in France detected tumors in 4.1 percent of 1,260 microchipped mice. This was one of six studies in which the scientists did not set out to find microchip-induced cancer but noticed the growths incidentally. They were testing compounds on behalf of chemical and pharmaceutical companies; but they ruled out the compounds as the tumors‘ cause. Because researchers only noted the most obvious tumors, the French study said, “These incidences may therefore slightly underestimate the true occurrence” of cancer.
• In 1997, a study in Germany found cancers in 1 percent of 4,279 chipped mice. The tumors “are clearly due to the implanted microchips,” the authors wrote.
Caveats accompanied the findings. “Blind leaps from the detection of tumors to the prediction of human health risk should be avoided,” one study cautioned. Also, because none of the studies had a control group of animals that did not get chips, the normal rate of tumors cannot be determined and compared to the rate with chips implanted.
Still, after reviewing the research, specialists at some pre-eminent cancer institutions said the findings raised red flags.
“There‘s no way in the world, having read this information, that I would have one of those chips implanted in my skin, or in one of my family members,” said Dr. Robert Benezra, head of the Cancer Biology Genetics Program at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

The product that VeriChip Corp. won approval for use in humans is an electronic capsule the size of two grains of rice. Generally, it is implanted with a syringe into an anesthetized portion of the upper arm.
When prompted by an electromagnetic scanner, the chip transmits a unique code. With the code, hospital staff can go on the Internet and access a patient’s medical profile that is maintained in a database by VeriChip Corp. for an annual fee.
