China Moves To Arrest Hundreds as Tibet Deadline Passes

KATHMANDU-Authorities in the Tibetan capital began arresting hundreds of people in the wake of anti-Chinese protests over the weekend as a deadline passed for those involved in the marches, demonstrations, and rioting to “surrender” to police, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reports.

One witness in Lhasa said armed police were rounding up “hundreds” of suspects, while reliable sources in Lhasa said municipal prosecutors had issued 150 arrest warrants by the deadline Monday for “escapees” still at large. Another Lhasa resident said Tibetans were now being turned away from hospitals in the city.

“The Lhasa People’s Hospital has been damaged,” the source told RFA’s Tibetan service. “The local Tibetans suspect it was damaged by the Chinese so that injured Tibetans couldn’t receive treatment. Tibetans who are taken to Lhasa hospitals are now being turned away,” the source added. A Hong Kong businesswoman in Lhasa said the city was quieter, and that residents were beginning to venture outside to buy essential supplies. “Today is better so I can go out,” she told RFA’s Cantonese service.

Now I have been to Vegas (who hasn’t), but when passing through it (I had not been to Vegas for 30 years or so) I notice how it had grown. If ever a city looked like Sodom, Babylon, and Sin city, it was this town.

Foundation for Moral Law to Defend Evangelist at Trial on March 10, 2008, in Salem, Mass. for Publicly Preaching on Halloween

SALEM, Mass., March 6 /Christian Newswire/ — The Foundation for Moral Law, a religious-liberties legal organization led by Judge Roy Moore, will be defending Michael Marcavage of Repent America, in a trial scheduled for March 10, 2008, against the charge of “disorderly conduct” brought against Mr. Marcavage for preaching in a Salem, Mass. public square on Halloween night, Oct. 31, 2007. Even though Salem’s laws allow the use of speech amplification until 10:00 p.m., Salem police officers on Halloween night confiscated Mr. Marcavage’s megaphone at 8:30 p.m., threw him to the ground, and arrested him on charges of allegedly violating the noise ordinance and “disorderly conduct”–all for calmly preaching the gospel to a large crowd of Halloween revelers. After the Foundation showed the local district attorney’s office that the Salem noise ordinance statute allowed Mr. Marcavage to use the megaphone, the noise ordinance charge was dropped.

Marcavage earlier had been charged with using an amplified megaphone to deliver the message of love and hope, but that charge was dropped after lawyers documented his arrest at 8:30 p.m. and pointed out that Salem laws allow such amplification until 10 p.m.

“Halloween night in Salem is like Mardi Gras in New Orleans,” DuPre told WND. “It’s a big sin-fest. That’s, of course, why Michael went there. He feels called to deliver the message of the Gospel.”

The city boasts on its own website: “Of course, Salem has become known as The Witch City! The Salem Witch Museum , the Witch Dungeon Museum and The Witch History Museum take you back in history to 1692, yet, present-day popularization of the witchcraft hysteria doesn’t reveal anything about the large number of modern Witches living in Salem today.”

A “Witch City” trial is scheduled Monday for a street preacher who was arrested and accused of disorderly conduct for expressing his belief in the Gospel of Jesus Christ on a public street in Salem, Mass., on Halloween night in 2007.

“Michael [Marcavage] is guilty of nothing more than preaching the Gospel,” said Ben DuPre, an attorney with former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore’s Foundation for Moral Law, who is representing Marcavage.

Palestinian Terrorist Kills at Least Eight at Jerusalem School

Statement on attack by Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Sallai Meridor
A Palestinian terrorist infiltrated a religious school in Jerusalem at about 9 p.m. Thursday (March 6) and opened fire throughout the complex, shooting dead at least eight mostly high school-age students. [1] Reports put the number of wounded at about 10, among them a 16-year-old boy in serious condition from chest wounds.[2]
The terrorist, an East Jerusalem resident, is believed to have perpetrated the attack, [3] and police and Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops searched the premises for two hours to determine whether there was a second or third terrorist. [4] The perpetrator attacked the students as they celebrated a holiday in the “Mercaz Harav” school dining room and studied religious texts in the school library. [5] Details were still unclear in the immediate aftermath of the event, but reports suggest that the terrorist was killed by an IDF paratrooper who engaged him in a gun battle. [6]
In Gaza, where Iran-backed terrorists have fired more than 4,000 rockets at civilians in Israel during the past two years, Palestinians celebrated the attacks by firing guns in the air, handing out candy and giving prayers of thanks at local mosques. [7]
