‘Yitro’, Jethro; Exodus 18:1-20:26
Moses came out with Israel and met his father in law Jethro who “heard that entire God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people and that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt” and Jethro “rejoiced for all the goodness which he had done for Israel.” The Prophet Moses gets counseled by his father in law in delegation.
In the Mount, in the desert; Israel gets schooled in the fear of the LORD. While the event in the mount God reveals himself and this shadows Pentecost. While the covenant is revealed, the Fear of the LORD is mighty upon the people. Here we see the Old Testament version of Pentecost as the fire, smoke, and trumpet sounds. What people have had this happen to them as this? None, except those at Pentecost in the Upper room.
Exo 18:1 When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt;
Exo 18:2 Then Jethro, Moses’ father in law, took Zipporah, Moses’ wife, after he had sent her back,
Exo 18:3 And her two sons; of which the name of the one was Gershom; for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land:
